The Governor’s Chief of Staff M. Lisa Moody made a rare appearance on the floor of the House Wednesday to speak with Minority Leader Lawrence Cafero, R-Norwalk.

Sources say she was there to tell the Republicans not to filibuster the clean contracting bill the Senate passed earlier tonight. But Cafero denied it. He said she was there regarding a different measure and it wasn’t the budget.

Rep. Chris Caruso, D-Bridgeport said the Speaker of the House James Amann, D-Milford, wanted to take up the cleaning contracting bill but Republicans had promised to filibuster it. And they did.

Cafero said there was never an agreement not to filibuster the bill and when it was called at 11:15 p.m. his members started to ask questions. Amann was quick to tell his deputy to skip the bill and move on as the deadline for the end of session was less than a half-hour away.

Sen. Gayle Slossberg said it’s a good bill. She said they worked hard to come to a compromise with the governor, who had vetoed similar bills in the past.

Sources say Republicans were reluctant to take up the bill because they were excluded from making appointments to the clean contracting board it creates.
