Editorial Cartoon by Dave Whamond: The massive economic stimulus effort to keep the economy afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic has, predictably, led to inflation. That was followed by the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act.

Inflation is defined as the overall general upward movement in the price of goods and services in an economy. The U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics has various indexes that measure different aspects of inflation.

In terms of buying power, $271.88 in November had the same buying power as $100 dollars in June 1986. You can use this handy inflation calculator to generate similar comparisons.
