Hours after addressing the nation about racial equity and Covid-19, Marcella Nunez-Smith checked in on that same topic with a dozen New Haveners at a sickle cell disease virtual town hall — in a bid to keep local stories, questions, and ideas front of mind as she helps push for pandemic-era policies in Washington, D.C.

Nunez-Smith is the chair of the White House’s Covid-19 health equity task force, tapped for the role by President Joe Biden.

She’s also an associate professor at the Yale School of Medicine and a practicing internal medicine physician of 20 years.
