HARTFORD, CT – Because of an executive order that allowed ballots mailed on Aug. 11 to be received by Thursday, Aug. 13, the results of Tuesday’s Democratic and Republican primaries were delayed.
In addition to the presidential preference primary, there were 11 primaries for the House and three for the state Senate.
In the Democratic primary in the House, Rep. Bobby Gibson fended off a challenge from Danielle DW Wong. In West Hartford, Kate Farrar beat Sherry Haller for an open seat. And in Wethersfield, Amy Bello defeated Paul Montinieri for an open seat – both candidates are former mayors in town.
Rep. Brandon McGee held off a challenge from Craig Stallings in Hartford and Windsor, and in New Britain Manny Sanchez defeated Richard Lacourciere. In Griswold, Mark DePonte beat Pamela Patalona for a chance to take on first-term Republican Rep. Brian Lanoue.

In Bridgeport, first-term Rep. Antonio Felipe fended off a challenge in the Democratic primary, and in the Republican primary in the Park City, Ethan Book defeated Joseph Borges for a chance to challenge Rep. Chris Rosario in November. Rep. Charles Stallworth fended off a challenge from Tony Barr.
In Berlin, in the Republican primary Donna Veach was facing Jim Townsley for the right to take on JoAnn Angelico-Stetson in November. But as of 11:30 p.m. Thursday there was no official winner. In Meriden, Mike Skelpts defeated Ernestine Holloway.
In the Senate, in a Democratic challenge Jorge Cabrera declared victory against activist and Hamden Legislative Council member Justin Farmer. In Bridgeport, Sen. Marilyn Moore fended off a challenge from Marcus Brown in Bridgeport.
In the Republican primary in Westport, Kim Healy beat William Duff for a chance to challenge Sen. Will Haskell.
