HARTFORD, CT — Hours before Connecticut was expected to begin the first phase of reopening the economy, the state’s computer system went down, shutting down email communication and causing a variety of other problems.

The outage, according to a message posted on the state of Connecticut website, says the problem started early Tuesday morning.

While the storage array has been restored it will take some time to bring the system back online.

It’s still unclear what caused the outage.

“We have not yet completed a root cause analysis of the error. That activity will begin when recovery is completed. Thank you for continuing to be patient with this outage. We understand the urgency related with recovery at this critical time.”

Some state agencies that don’t use the Department of Administrative Services system are still operational. Also the Connecticut General Assembly email server is still operational.

It’s too soon to tell whether this will impact the processing of unemployment claims.
