HARTFORD, CT – State Rep. Jane Garibay, a Windsor Democrat, tested positive Thursday for COVID-19.

In an email to her colleagues, she said she was “self-quarantining and resting comfortably at home.”

Earlier Thursday, Speaker of the House Joe Aresimowicz, Majority Leader Matt Ritter, and House Minority Leader Themis had emailed members to let them know a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives tested positive for the virus.

Garibay came down with symptoms on Sunday, “which according to public health officials is outside the window of which we should be concerned,” the trio wrote.

Just before 9 p.m. Thursday she emailed her colleagues in the House, saying: “Unfortunately I have tested positive for COVID 19. I wanted to let you know that I am self quarantining and resting comfortably at home. Thank you for all the well wishes, and I look forward to when we can all be together again.”

The last time the House was in session was Wednesday, March 11. Garibay is a member of the committees on Aging, Commerce, and Transportation.

“Our hearts, prayers, and wishes go to our colleague and [her] family at this time,” Aresimowicz, Ritter, and Klarides wrote.

Legislative leaders are supposed to have a conversation Monday about whether to postpone the rest of the legislative session. The state Capitol is closed to the public until March 30.

Gov. Ned Lamont announced there were 159 positive cases in Connecticut as of Thursday evening. Three Connecticut residents have died after contracting the virus. A man in his 80s from Ridgefield, and two men, one in their 80s and one in their 90s from New Canaan.
