The labor union PAC that ran a digital ad campaign last week against, among others, Republican William Petit, who is running for a state House seat, has pulled its next digital ad campaign for all the candidates.

the Labor United for Connecticut PAC told election regulators Monday that it canceled $37,500 in digital advertising targeted in support of, and opposition to, candidates in 13 House races and one state Senate race.

Its ad against Petit, the lone survivor of a 2007 home invasion, back-fired and the union official who was in charge of the PAC resigned last week as a result of the backlash against the ad, which likened him to Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump with respect to his comments and policy positions on women and families.

“To post something that said I attack women and families was, I thought, about the lowest of blows,” Petit said last week. “It speaks to the foibles of human nature.” Petit has not said who he is supporting in the presidential contest.

The ad created by DKC, a New York public relations and crisis management firm, was widely panned by top Republicans and Democrats.
