Thirteen more state workers, all vocational-technical employees in the Department of Education, received pink slips on Wednesday

That brings the total number of Executive Branch layoffs to 693.

Laid off were three staffers at A.I. Prince Technical High School; three at Eli Whitney; three at Vinal; and two at both Platt and Windham technical high schools.

Office of Policy and Management officials said the layoffs are a result of a federal regulation change that adult students in secondary students will no longer have access to student financial aid.

As a result, the following programs are being terminated as of June 13th of this year: medical assistant at Platt; dental assistant at Prince and Windham schools; certified nursing assistant at Eli Whitney; and surgical technologist at Prince and Eli Whitney schools.

Earlier this year, the Nursing Board of Examiners voted to close the Licensed Practical Nurse Program at Vinal due to the low number of students who achieved certification after completing the program.
