Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s campaign announced Monday that the Democratic frontrunner will campaign in the state on Thursday.
Arrangements for the visit haven’t been finalized, but her campaign said she plans to discuss “her plans to tackle gun violence in communities across America and to break down the barriers that hold too many families back.”
Ohio Gov. John Kasich will return to Connecticut Friday for a town hall event at Glastonbury High School.
With Connecticut playing an increasingly important role in the presidential primary, U.S Sens. Bernie Sanders and Ted Cruz have not announced plans to visit Connecticut before the April 26 primary.
An Emerson College Polling Society survey found Clinton with a six-point lead over Sanders in Connecticut. Republican frontrunner, Donald Trump, who held a rally in Hartford last week, would walk away with 50 percent of the Republican primary voters, according to the poll.
Kasich, who campaigned at Sacred Heart University earlier this month, comes in second place with 26 percent of the vote, according to the poll.
Secretary of the State Denise Merrill reminded voters that in order to vote on April 26 they have to be registered with a party.
“People are registering to vote at a record-setting pace and switching their status from unaffiliated voters in order to participate in the presidential primary,” Merrill said. “New or unaffiliated voters who intend to vote in the primary but have not updated their registration status need to know that time is running out.”
As of last week, almost 22,000 unaffiliated voters have switched to a major party. According to the latest counts, 13,722 people switched from unaffiliated voters to the Democratic Party and 8,232 people switched from unaffiliated to the Republican Party.
Connecticut has 1,945,711 registered voters, 735,473 are Democrats, 417,823 are Republicans and 792,415 are unaffiliated.
