
After caring for her ailing mother for 20 years, Joanne Siena is using her voice as an AARP volunteer to ensure elder care is not affected by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s proposed budget cuts for fiscal 2017.
Siena was just one of the many people who voiced their opposition to Malloy’s proposal to cut state funding by more than a half-billion dollars.
During his recent State of the State address, Malloy called for changes that would reduce the approved 2016-17 $40 billion biennial budget by $570 million. In order to offset the projected deficit in the state’s budget, Malloy has proposed cuts that would reduce the second year’s total from $20.4 billion to $19.8 billion.
