State Treasurer Denise Nappier’s mother Barbara H. Nappier died on Saturday surrounded by family and friends, according to a spokeswoman for her campaign.
“The Nappier family has requested privacy and will not be accepting or returning calls for comment,” Rose Ryan, a spokeswoman for Nappier’s campaign, said. “The campaign asks that members of the media please honor this request.” No funeral arrangements have been made yet.
Nappier’s Republican challenger, Tim Herbst, sent his condolences Sunday.
“I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Barbara Nappier. My thoughts and prayers are with Denise and the entire Nappier family during this sad time,” Herbst said. “Nothing means more than family, and my prayers are with them today.”
Barbara Nappier’s death also prompted Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman to offer their condolences.
“I know that Denise, her sisters and her brother were incredibly close with their mom, and I am particularly confident that Barbara was exceptionally proud of the accomplishments of all of her children,” Malloy said.
“My heart goes out to the Nappier family during this very sad time,” Wyman said. “Barbara Nappier leaves a strong legacy as a devoted mother and civic-minded Connecticut resident.”
