An event August 18 at the Connecticut Science Center will help consumers and businesses secure their online accounts (

The National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) is hosting a free event at the Connecticut Science Center at 9:00 a.m. Monday, August 18, to educate the public on how to better protect personal information online.

Panelists will include: Michael Kaiser, Executive Director of the National Cyber   Security Alliance, William Efron, Director of the Northeast Region Federal Trade   Commission, John Chandy, Associate Professor of the Electrical Engineering Department   at UConn, Pauletter Scarpetti, President and CEO of the CT Better Business Bureau and Attorney General George Jepsen.

The event will focus on the need to go beyond passwords for better protecting email, e-commerce, and social media accounts. Among the suggested strategies is to adopt two-factor authentication which requires a password as well as a special (and always changing) code generated on a smart phone or other mobile device.
