Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton officially withdrew his name from the Republican primary ballot last week.

Boughton suspended his campaign for governor on June 18, but could have left his name on the ballot like former U.S. Rep. Rob Simmons did in 2010. Simmons lost the convention to Linda McMahon that year, but never withdrew his name from the ballot. After a last-minute surge of support for Simmons, who campaigned briefly only at the end of the cycle, McMahon won the Republican primary.

Boughton’s letter makes it official that he won’t be on the ballot.

The ballots, according to the Secretary of the State’s office, will be printed in the next few weeks.
