More budget numbers to pour over! This time from the governor’s budget office and the legislature’s OFA. Both offices report a drop in revenue of $259 million in 2014 and $229.4 million in 2015, but a $150.1 million surplus for the current fiscal year. Surplus now, deficits later. The Senate’s 22 Democrats all need to vote for the spending cap legislation in order for it to pass, but one Senator, Joan Hartley, voted against the bill in committee. If the bill doesn’t pass, the budget voted out of the Approps Committee will exceed the cap. Read more

The governor was laughing it up at the White House Correspondents Dinner over the weekend. The trip wasn’t billed to taxpayers, instead People’s Magazine footed the bill. Malloy told News 8 that he used the trip to pitch Connecticut as the place for digital media. Read more

At noon, Malloy will speak at a coalition of clergy’s minimum wage rally on the Capitol’s North Grounds.
At 2:30 p.m., Gov. Malloy will hold a press conference to make an economic development announcement at Matrix Corporate Center, 39 Old Ridgebury Road, Danbury.
At 5:45 p.m., Malloy will give remarks at the CT AFL-CIO’s May Day march and rally on the New Haven Green between College & Elm Streets.
At 7:40 p.m. (ish) the governor will address the Connecticut Bar Foundation’s 60th Anniversary Celebration at the Hartford Club, 46 Prospect Street, Hartford. The event begins at 6 p.m.
The NRCC is targeting Congresswoman Esty and a 20 other House Democrats over legislation to allow employers to offer comp time as an alternative to paying overtime. They are billing this as “freedom for working moms.” Read more

Jackson Laboratory scientists announced Tuesday that they will use mice as clinical stand-ins or “avatars” for human patients with cancerous tumors to help test and create genetically-tailored cancer treatments. Read more
There’s only one case left to adjudicate in the investigation into illegal campaign contributions to former House Speaker Chris Donovan’s failed congressional campaign. George Tirado, 36, a co-owner of the Waterbury smoke shop at the center of the conspiracy, entered a guilty plea two weeks ago, leaving just Campaign Finance Director Robert Braddock Jr. to stand trial. A day after her husband was criticized for holding a conference call that included investment bankers with an interest in Northeast Utilities, the National Republican Congressional Committee called upon U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty to return $3,500 in campaign contributions from Northeast Utility executives and lobbyists. Read more
