Budget Analysts
Predict $488M
Drop In Revenue

More budget numbers to pour over! This time from the governor’s budget office and the legislature’s OFA. Both offices report a drop in revenue of $259 million in 2014 and $229.4 million in 2015, but a $150.1 million surplus for the current fiscal year. Surplus now, deficits later. The state budget just got messier. Read more

Spending Cap
Could Come
Down To 1 Vote

The Senate’s 22 Democrats all need to vote for the spending cap legislation in order for it to pass, but one Senator, Joan Hartley, voted against the bill in committee. If the bill doesn’t pass, the budget voted out of the Approps Committee will exceed the cap. Read more

U.S. REP. LARSON and Mayor Segarra will participate in a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new All Waste, USA Hauling public access compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station at 10 a.m. at Clean Energy All Waste/USA Hauling CNG Station, 35 Maxim Road, Hartford.

GOVERNOR’S DAY

At 9 a.m. (ish) Gov. Malloy will give the welcoming remarks at CREC’s “School Safety: It’s Everybody’s Business” conference at the Connecticut Convention Center, 100 Columbus Blvd, Hartford. The event begins at 8:45 a.m.

At 11 a.m., the governor will give remarks at the CT State Golf Association’s press conference in the Hall of the Flags.

At noon, Malloy will speak at a coalition of clergy’s minimum wage rally on the Capitol’s North Grounds.

At 2:30 p.m., Gov. Malloy will hold a press conference to make an economic development announcement at Matrix Corporate Center, 39 Old Ridgebury Road, Danbury.

At 5:45 p.m., Malloy will give remarks at the CT AFL-CIO’s May Day march and rally on the New Haven Green between College & Elm Streets.

At 7:40 p.m. (ish) the governor will address the Connecticut Bar Foundation’s 60th Anniversary Celebration at the Hartford Club, 46 Prospect Street, Hartford. The event begins at 6 p.m.

Campaign Conspiracy

There’s only one case left to adjudicate in the investigation into illegal campaign contributions to former House Speaker Chris Donovan’s failed congressional campaign. George Tirado, 36, a co-owner of the Waterbury smoke shop at the center of the conspiracy, entered a guilty plea two weeks ago, leaving just Campaign Finance Director Robert Braddock Jr. to stand trial. A day after her husband was criticized for holding a conference call that included investment bankers with an interest in Northeast Utilities, the National Republican Congressional Committee called upon U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty to return $3,500 in campaign contributions from Northeast Utility executives and lobbyists. Read more
