With Connecticut expected to pass sweeping gun control measures this week, President Barack Obama will visit the University of Hartford on Monday, April 8, to encourage Congress to do the same.

“President Obama’s visit is proof yet again that the Connecticut effect is not going away,” U.S. Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy said in a statement. “His visit sends a strong message to the state and nation — we must act now to reduce gun violence.

Less than four months have passed since the Newtown tragedy, and already more than 3,000 additional lives have been lost to gun violence — including more than 50 innocent children.”

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy confirmed Tuesday that Obama would make a stop in the state, but declined to offer any details.
