The visitor center at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center is making progress on its 65,000 square foot facility that will display the retired Space Shuttle Atlantis.
The Shuttle will be tilted and its payload bay doors opened as imagined in this concept drawing.
But currently the shuttle is wrapped in shrink wrap to protect it during the construction process:
The exhibit will open sometime next year and will be the only one to display the Shuttle in an on-orbit configuration. Shuttle Endeavour recently arrived at the California Science Center after a two day parade through Los Angeles, and Discovery is on display at the Smithsonian’s James S. McDonnell Space Hangar at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Washington DC.
