Secretary of the State Denise Merrill said Wednesday that a recount will be conducted in 106th General Assembly district in Newtown where a Republican and a Democrat were competing for an open seat.
Republican Mitch Bolinsky received 5,748 votes compared to 5,700 votes Democrat Lisa Romano received.
“Since the margin between the candidates in the 106th General Assembly District was within 0.5% of the total votes cast, the Newtown Town Clerk must now notify the Registrars of Voters about the impending recount, which must be completed within 5 business days of the election,” Merrill said Wednesday. “This close vote only serves as a good reminder why it is so important that everyone who is eligible to vote registers and makes their voice heard on Election Day by casting a ballot, since every vote truly does matter.”
