Rasmussen’s latest poll shows Chris Murphy’s debate performance may have helped him inch up past Republican Linda McMahon in the Connecticut race for U.S. Senate.
The poll of 500 likely voters, which shows Murphy with 51 percent of the vote to McMahon’s 46 percent was conducted Sunday following their first televised debate on WFSB-TV.
“Additionally, Murphy’s lead is largely derived from ‘leaners‘,” the poll says. “These are people who initially indicate no preference for either of the candidates but indicate they are leaning towards one candidate when asked a follow-up question. Without leaners, it’s Murphy 46 percent and McMahon 45 percent. This is consistent with the notion that the state’s underlying Democratic tilt will help Murphy in the final analysis.”
The poll has a 4.5 percent margin of error.
