The Attorney General’s office won’t be looking into the complaint by the Connecticut Education Association regarding U.S. Senate candidate Linda McMahon’s statements on her 2009 application for the state Board of Education.

McMahon served on the state Board of Education for one year. She was appointed by former Gov. M. Jodi Rell.

In a statement Thursday, the Attorney General’s office explains that the CEA is asking for a criminal investigation, but because the Office of Attorney General does not have criminal authority, it will take no action. CEA can take whatever steps it deems appropriate, Susan Kinsman, a spokeswoman for the attorney general’s office, said.

The CEA accuses McMahon of committing perjury on the application when it says she has a Bachelor of Science degree in English when in reality it’s a Bachelor of Arts degree in French.

When answering the question on the application about if she has been “publicly identified, in person, or by virtue of an organizational association, with a particularly, controversial national, state or local issue?” McMahon answered “No.”

CEA said the answer should have been “Yes” because of her tenure as CEO of the WWE.

“For the twenty years Linda McMahon served as CEO of WWE, and at a time when 15% of the viewership of the channel included children 11 years and younger, WWE built a controversial reputation for broadcasting degrees of sexual content, profanity, and violence that raised public concern,” the CEA says in its letter to the Attorney General.

It even goes as far as to count the number of “crotch grabs” and “groin kicks.” Citing a one year study of the WWE by Indiana University on behalf of the National Institute on Media and the Family it counted 3,000 instances of violence and sexual content.

—crotch grabbing or pointing: 1,658 instances
—garbage cans, chairs, tables, and brooms used in wrestling: 609
—kicks to the groin: 273
—profane descriptions of people: 158
—obscene finger gestures: 157
—simulated sexual activity: 128
—scantily clad women: 70
—urinating (talking about/appearing to): 21

CEA has endorsed McMahon’s opponent, Democrat Chris Murphy.

“Congressman Murphy’s campaign has been such a failure that he’s now counting on Washington insiders and big-money special interests to rescue him from the political abyss,” Todd Abrajano, McMahon’s spokesman said. “No matter how many negative ads the national Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee pays for or how often his third-party Hartford attack dogs falsely attack Linda McMahon, Congressman Murphy will never be able to escape the fact that he is a lazy, dishonest career politician with an ethics problem and no plan to put Connecticut back to work.”
