At around 4 p.m. Friday afternoon the Hartford Police Department moved its DUI checkpoint away from downtown where 1,300 Democrats were gathered for their annual fundraiser to Park Street.
The press release from the Hartford Police Department written mostly in red announced the change in venue for the checkpoint which will operate from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. The checkpoint was moved from 1 State Street to Park Street.
Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra, who was attending the annual dinner, said he was unaware of the change in venue. In fact, he was unaware of the checkpoint.
He said he encourages the police department to hold DUI checkpoints in neighborhoods where they may find crimes aside from drunk driving so they prevent incidents before they happen.
Democratic revelers privately expressed that they were just happy it was moved.
