The legislature’s Insurance and Real Estate Committee will add the latest storm to its agenda next week when it meets to learn more about the insurance industry’s response to Tropical Storm Irene.

Insurance Committee Co-Chairman Robert Megna, D-New Haven, has invited insurance executives and others to make presentations from 1-2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15. A public hearing will be held at 2:30 p.m. following the formal presentations.

Megna said the committee will examine the process by which the insurance industry responded to car, home and business owners on property claims in the wake of both storms. It will also examine application of hurricane deductibles, which in many cases were waved during Irene even though the storm didn’t meet the threshold for such claims.

The hearing will be held in Room 2D of the Legislative Office Building.
