CTTechJunkie’s Matt Rece and Tony Land are flying into the eye of Hurricane Irene later today aboard an Air Force C-130 hurricane hunter.  CTTechJunkie will post photos and video of the flight depending on our power and Internet availability upon their return early Saturday morning.

The C-130 will fly through the eyewall of Hurricane Irene recording data that will be used to help forecasters determine the strength of the storm and the path it might take as it makes landfall. The 11 hour flight typically takes a four trips through the eye of the storm from various directions to collect data.  The plane carries enough fuel for a 14 hour flight if necessary.
