Though results from his wager with Kentucky’s governor on this weekend’s Final Four men’s basketball game are still up in the air, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is doubling down on the UConn Huskies. He’s now entered into another friendly basketball bet, this time with Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels.
Malloy’s new bet hinges on the results of Sunday’s women’s game between UConn and Notre Dame. The stakes? Regional gourmet chocolate.
“I’m planning on a nice ham dinner, courtesy of the Governor of Kentucky—it will be wonderful to finish it with South Bend chocolate,” said Malloy. “The Fighting Irish are a formidable opponent with dedicated fans, but I have confidence that Geno and the UConn women will show them a great game, even if the scoreboard ultimately proves disappointing for Indiana.”
Should UConn come out on top, Malloy will receive chocolates from the South Bend Chocolate Company of the Notre Dame area.
If the Fighting Irish prevail, Malloy will have to part ways with a box of UConn-themed Munson’s chocolate.
“UConn is No. 1 for good reason, but we don’t call them ‘Fighting Irish’ for nothing. We’re looking for a great game,” said Daniels.
The teams will square off at 9:30 Sunday night at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
