Earlier this week following a town hall meeting in New Haven, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy stopped in for a slice at Pepe’s Pizza. On Friday Malloy admitted that, as far as pizzas in that city go, he’s a Pepe’s guy, putting to rest what was likely months of intense speculation in Connecticut’s pizza capital.

Malloy said that at his recent visit to Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana tried a slice of their white clam pizza, which he praised with a qualifier.

“If you like garlic, that’s your best clam pizza in the world, I suppose,” he said, adding that he’s really “more of a pepperoni guy.”

But Malloy admitted he isn’t that familiar with the competition. He said it’s been a long time since he visited Sally’s Apizza and said he’s never been to Modern Apizza. The governor said he intends to fix that.

“I promise the people of New Haven that I will visit Sally’s and Modern and then I’ll make a pronouncement,” he said.
