U.S. Speaker of the House John Boehner will be the featured speaker at the Republican Party’s annual fundraiser April 9 in Stamford.

Boehner, who just took over after last year’s election as Speaker of the House, is serving his 11th term in Congress and will likely draw a good crowd for the 33rd annual Prescott Bush Dinner.

Turnout will be important since Republicans failed to pick up one seat in Congress and the state’s constitutional offices. Getting the Ohio lawmaker to attend the event, could also be viewed as a feather in Republican Party Chris Healy’s hat as he ponders his re-election.

House Minority Leader Lawrence Cafero of Norwalk will also be honored at the dinner.

“In his third term as Leader of the Republican caucus he has been a voice for common sense government and advocate for the people of our state. We are excited to present Larry with our most prestigious award and thank him for his continued leadership and service to our Party,” Healy said in a press release publicizing the event.

The event will be held at the Stamford Hilton.

Last year Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour was the keynote speaker at the event.
