As of 9 a.m. this morning voter turnout at polling places around the state varied greatly with some of the highest numbers coming from Litchfield, Wallingford, and Greenwich, according to Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz.
In a brief press conference Bysiewicz said there were no problems to report with the exception of a fire alarm going off at one polling place in Southbury. It was a false alarm and things are running smoothly, she said.
She said she’s still anticipating voter turnout to be about 60 percent in this mid-term election.
Voter turnout in Greenwich, where at least three of the candidates at the top of the ballot voted was 17.7 percent, 18 percent in Litchfield, and 22 percent in Wallingford. Also Hamden where there’s generally high voter participation, turnout was between 15 and 20 percent.
In Bolton, a voter wearing a World Wrestling Entertainment T-shirt brought a Wall Street Journal photographer with him to the polls and there were no issues, Bysiewicz said.
The WWE had planned on handing out WWE apparel at the polls, but decided not to after the federal government sent them a letter warning them it could look like they were giving voters something in exchange for voting.
