Newington Mayor Jeffrey Wright, known as “Connecticut’s Cash Cop,” secured the GOP nomination by a wide margin for state Treasurer Saturday. He won the nomination over Andrew White of Ridgefield, who’s similar last name prompted some confusion among delegates at the Republican Convention.

Wright is also a Marine Corps veteran and owner of a financial planning company.

Manchester Mayor Louis Spadaccini said Wright’s background in financial planning and his leadership in Newington make him the perfect Republican nominee.

“He has the experience of balancing budgets and making tough decisions,” he said. “He placed Newington on sound footing to weather this economic storm.”

Wright will face long-time state Treasurer Denise Nappier, the Democratic incumbent, in the November election.
