A Superior Court Judge will hear arguments today on whether Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz is qualified to run for attorney general.
A pall has been cast over Bysiewicz’s candidacy for attorney general almost since its inception when a blogger wondered if she met the 10 years of active practice provision. After continuing to claim she’s qualified Bysiewicz announced more than a week ago that she would ask a court to determine her eligibility.
Bysiewicz, a Democrat, filed the lawsuit against the state and her own party. Republicans joined the lawsuit and plan on arguing she’s not qualified. Bysiewicz says her 11 years as Secretary of State should count toward the active practice provision. Bysiewicz was in private practice for six years.
The hearing takes place 2 p.m. today in Hartford Superior Court.
