Republican Party Chairman Chris Healy says his party has authorized him to hire a lawyer and intervene in the lawsuit Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz filed asking the court to rule on her eligibility to run for attorney general.

Healy said in a phone message Wednesday that the party has retained Eliot Gersten to represent it in court and make sure this is an election with qualified candidates from both parties.

“Ours are qualified I don’t believe she is,” Healy said.

Bysiewicz filed a lawsuit last week against the state and the Democratic Party claiming she meets the 10 years of active practice provision required by statute to run for the office of attorney general.
