On the eve of his big announcement, Ned Lamont, the Greenwich cable executive, decided to sit out a candidates forum in Newington Monday night.
Disappointed Democratic Town Committee members said he canceled about an hour before Monday night’s event at the Newington VFW.
Joe Abbey, Lamont’s campaign manager, said they were busy preparing Lamont’s announcement speech. He said they would reschedule a meeting with the Newington Democratic Town Committee in the future.
Meanwhile three candidates exploring a run for governor were given an opportunity to practice their stump speech and field a handful of questions from committee members.
Simsbury First Selectman Mary Glassman highlighted her 11 years of experience as a local official in a mostly Republican town. Ridgefield First Selectman Rudy Marconi highlighted his top three priorities: education, transportation, and jobs. And former Stamford Mayor Dan Malloy talked about how government can work and how the state needs a governor who can fight on its behalf.
