
One week after Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell proposed $391 million in new taxes in an effort to strike a budget deal with the legislature’s Democratic majority, Republican lawmakers are expected to unveil a budget Thursday afternoon which includes no new tax increases.
The Republican minority have previously proposed two budgets which do not increase taxes. The legislature’s Democratic majority proposed $1.8 million in new taxes last week, including an increase in the income tax. Rell’s budget proposal increases taxes on tobacco, alcohol, and corporations for a period of three years.
