Gov. M. Jodi Rell said Monday that she has an executive order ready to go in case there’s no budget agreement by Tuesday, the last day of the fiscal year.

The governor and legislative leaders met Tuesday, but neither side was talking. Both sides have been at odds for several months over how to deal with a two-year estimated deficit that could be as much as $8.8 billion.

“We’re certainly meeting and it would be our goal obviously to have a budget agreement in place before the end of the fiscal year, but on a personal note I think it’s more important that we get it right rather than simply making it happen,” Rell said Monday.

Legislative leaders were asked for comment Monday, but failed to provide any.
