Shortly before midnight Tuesday the House voted 107-37 on a bill, which would require a US Senate vacancy to be filled by a special election, instead of gubernatorial appointment.

The Senate passed the bill 21-12 last week. The bill now goes to Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell for approval. It looks like even if Rell vetoed the bill that the Democratic majority in the General Assembly has enough support to override it.
