Supporters of legal protections for transgender and gender non-conforming individuals will gather at the state Capitol Tuesday around the same time as the Family Institute of Connecticut, a religious group which has lobbied against same-sex marriage and a bill seeking to add gender identity to the state’s non-discrimination laws.

The Family Institute upon learning that transgender individuals and their supporters would be gathering at the Capitol on Tuesday sent out an email cautioning parents about bringing their “small children” with them.

“FIC has learned that transgender activists have scheduled their lobby day for tomorrow. While we need as big a turnout as possible, it is important to make our members aware of this so that those with small children can plan accordingly,” the email reads. “This might also be a good occasion for fathers to step up at the Legislative Office Building in place of their wives and children, if they are able.”
