A bill proposing a nickel fee on plastic and paper bags has passed its first hurdle.
The bill that charges consumers a nickel for every plastic and paper bag they receive to lug their goods out of a store passed the Environment Committee last week. It’s next stop may be the Finance Committee.
Legislators will hold a press conference on the measure today at 11 a.m.
