Gov. M. Jodi Rell Tuesday suggested that University of Connecticut Men’s Basketball Coach Jim Calhoun “might want a do-over” in his much-discussed televised shouting match with a freelance reporter about his salary.
If Calhoun had the opportunity, “he would welcome a do-over and not have that embarrassing display,” she said.
Calhoun, who earns $1.62 million a year, was questioned during a post-game news conference last week by Ken Krayeske about whether he might want to give up some of his pay because of the state budget crisis.
The governor, tongue in cheek, said she’d have to check about whether Calhoun had “taken his furlough day.” When asked by a reporter in New Haven Tuesday about what she considered embarrassing about Calhoun’s reply, she said “his whole tone.”
