Speaker of the House James Amann handed over the gavel to newly elected Speaker of the House Chris Donovan. Donovan was nominated by Majority Leader Denise Merrill, D-Mansfield. His nomination was seconded by Minority Leader Lawrence Cafero, R-Norwalk. Amann was tearful as he reflected on his past 18 years in the General Assembly. His word of advice for the 26 freshmen legislators sworn in Wednesday was “never forget where you come from and never forget why you’re here.”
