As Colin McEnroe prepares for his final show this afternoon one of his long-time sponsors and biggest supporters, Dr. Jerry Rosenfeld “the dentist who caters to cowards,” said he is considering ending his relationship with WTIC.
“It’s not official, but it’s most likely that I would not continue,” Rosenfeld said in a phone interview Wednesday.
Rosenfeld said he has been sponsoring McEnroe’s show for 15 years. A loyal sponsor and listener, Rosenfeld said that even when McEnroe was given a 9 p.m. Sunday night slot, he and his wife would listen. “We used to joke we were his only listeners,” he said.
The news that McEnroe was fired from WTIC radio along with morning show co-host Diane Smith broke yesterday. The station said it will be filling McEnroe’s time slot with a 3 to 6 p.m. “news block” that will be anchored by Aaron Kupec and Bill Pearse.
McEnroe’s last show airs at 3 p.m. today on WTIC 1080 AM. You can continue reading McEnroe’s blog or Sunday column in the Hartford Courant.
