Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz reported Wednesday that 102 women are running for the General Assembly this year.
The 102 candidates represent the highest number over the last 10 years, Bysiewicz said in a press release.
In the last decade, four out of the last five election cycles has witnessed an increase in the total number of women running for the General Assembly. This year, 14 women are candidates for State Senate and 88 women are candidates for State Representative.
In 2006 there were 99 female candidates, in 2004 there were 91, in 2000 there were 74, and in 1998 there were 83, according to Bysiewicz’s press release.
