“The system, the law of supply and demand, is no longer functioning,” U.S. Rep. John B. Larson, D-1, said Monday at the legislative office building in Hartford.

Larson has been actively pursuing ways to rein in speculation in the energy markets. The newest piece of legislation Larson introduced H.R. 6406, would elevate the Inspector General of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and give him or her greater authority to oversee commission activities. He said Monday that there would be a hearing on the bill when Congress returns from recess.
