Hartford City Councilman Luis Cotto was working late at City Hall Thursday night and happened upon the Democratic Convention where the delegates nominated candidates for the city’s seven state representative seats. According to Cotto’s blog, Ion Hartford, Abraham “Abe” Giles, the 81 year old businessman whose contracts with the city are being investigated by a state Grand Jury, won the party’s nomination 8 to 5 over incumbent Rep. Marie Kirkley-Bey.

Giles held the seat from 1972 to 1988. He tried several times to regain it, ultimately losing it to Kirkley-Bey in 1992.
