Click the play arrow to see Doug Schwartz, director of the Quinnipiac University poll, talk about Barack Obama’s 17 point lead over John McCain in the race for president. Hillary Clinton enjoys a 3 point lead over McCain in Connecticut. Also keep reading to see what Schwartz had to say about U.S. Senator Chris Dodd’s approval rating.

At a Thursday press conference Schwartz said Dodd’s approval rating of 51 percent is at an all time low. “When an incumbent falls below 50 percent they’re vunerable,” he said.

When Dodd ran for president his numbers dropped, Schwartz said. He said the same thing happened to U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman when he ran for president, however, Dodd’s numbers should begin to rebound now that he’s off the campaign trail.

“He really does not want to fall below 50 percent,” he said. “He is up for re-election in 2010 and no incumbent wants to start a reelection campaign with numbers that low,”
