Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz is calling on state Sen. Louis DeLuca, R-Woodbury, to resign his Senate seat effective July 5, 2007 to allow for his constituents to elect a new state senator on Nov. 6.
DeLuca plead guilty to threatening charges earlier this month. An arrest affidavit found he had conspired with a Danbury trash hauler with alleged mob ties to “bitch slap” someone he thought was abusing his granddaughter. DeLuca did resign his leadership position last week.
“Sen. DeLuca has violated the public trust and his oath of office,” Bysiewicz said in a press release. “Not only did he break the law by conspiring to threaten someone, he also apparently lied to Federal investigators, and promised his associates that he would use his considerable influence in the General Assembly to help them. Connecticut voters have seen this type of influence peddling before and it has no place in government.”
