According to the Hartford Courant legislative leaders and Gov. M. Jodi Rell reached a tentative budget deal Monday. House Minority Leader Lawrence Cafero, R-Norwalk confirmed Tuesday that a tenative budget deal was reached around 9:30 p.m. Monday night. The details still need to worked out, he said. He said the Courant story was accurate in reporting there was no income tax increase in the budget. As for the Earned Income Tax Credit and Estate Tax, those numbers still need to be negotiated Cafero said. He said the Office of Fiscal Analysis and Office of Policy and Management are crunching the numbers. At the end of the day the big story is the state has a budget that doesn’t increase taxes, Cafero said.
Cafero said there apparently was an agreement not to talk to the media yet about the deal. He said apparently someone broke that agreement.
