The legislative chairman of the Education Committee expressed their discontent with Gov. M. Jodi Rell’s administration Wednesday morning claiming she is spreading misinformation about her own budget.
On Tuesday Rell told the Capitol Press Corps that new ECS funding proposed in her budget will actually be used for education and that she was working on a way to tie it directly to property tax relief, but hadn’t figured out how she would do that exactly. She told reporters to “Stay tuned” Tuesday. But they may not have to wait too long because today at 3 p.m. Rell will go over her new plan regarding property tax relief to cities and towns.
Wednesday morning local officials from several small cities and towns talked about how Rell’s budget may increase education funding, but cut aid to other municipal programs like Town Aid Road and PILOT, which stands for payment in lieu of taxes. Tuned in later to see how this battle progresses.
