Martin Frankel didn’t look anything like this picture when he walked into federal court in New Haven Thursday. The mastermind of $200 million international insurance scams looked more like Jeremiah Johnson as his court-appointed lawyer asked Judge Ellen Bree Burns for protection in the clink from assaults stemming from his bizarre and widely reported kinky sexcapades. Frankel technically came to court to request that Judge Burns reduce his 200-month sentence for fraud-related charges. Burns originally handed down that sentence under mandatory guidelines. The Supreme Court did away with those guidelines.
