For what may be the last time, Moderator Judith Pegram reads off the totals from mechanical voting machine No. 64696 at Sarah Rawson School in Hartford. The state is supposed to replace these iron horses with computerized contraptions next year. Though Hartford had a relatively low key Board of Education race, local elections around the state boasted historical results, especially in Waterbury, where incumbent Mayor Michael Jarjura won an unprecedented write-in campaign.
Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez and one of his top allies, Democratic Town Chair Noel McGregor Jr., pore over the numbers at Mamacitas Restaurant on Broad Street. The three Democratic candidates for the BOE won easily, though Working Families Party nominee Sharon Patterson Stallings ousted incumbent Republican Michael Lupo.
