John Dempsey Hospital Expansion Take 3

(Updated 5 p.m.) Previous attempts have failed, but Gov. M. Jodi Rell and University of Connecticut President Michael Hogan are hoping their latest attempt to increase the size of John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington will succeed.

Attorney General Richard Blumenthal says Anthem is getting the best bargains going to any health insurance company by virtue of a clause that requires hospitals to give it the “most favored treatment at the same time it’s raising its premiums.”

Proposed Wood Furnace Ban Provokes Controversy

Getting Long-Term Care Costs Under Control Requires Leadership

Reducing the number of patients in nursing homes, and increasing those served in their own homes will help shave $900 million off nearly $3 billion in the state’s long-term care costs over the next 15 years, according to a report released Monday by the Connecticut Regional Institute for the 21st Century.

Those black Chevy Suburbans attracting curiosity on Chapel Street were transporting a visitor to town on two pieces of business: U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Pelosi came to raise money for Democrats, and to raise consciousness about a last-ditch health care reform bill she’s trying to pass back in D.C.
